About Lehigh > Employment at Lehigh > Community

Lehigh is located in historic Bethlehem, in the heart of Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. Situated 75 miles from New York City and 50 miles from Philadelphia, the area is a combination of urban and suburban environments, smaller communities and vast rural spaces that encourage great diversity of lifestyle. We are enriched by the area's distinctive history, culture, and sense of community. The valley, an active center for commerce, the arts, recreation, education and health care, also features a burgeoning technology hub with proximity to major east coast cities, including Boston and Washington, D.C.
You'll enjoy an abundance of activities in the city and in the surrounding area, making it an ideal place to live and work.

Lehigh plays an important role in the economic, cultural and educational development of the community and beyond. As the region's premiere performing arts center, Lehigh's Zoellner Arts Center attracts more than 40,000 people each year to cultural events. The center provides outreach projects in the community that make significant contributions to the quality of life for local residents. These projects include coordinating musical and theatrical performances at local schools, hosting interactive art gallery events for children, and holding lectures at adult communities.
Lehigh is committed to helping children in neighboring South Bethlehem with their educational needs by sharing its academic expertise with local school districts. Lehigh's Centennial School, a teaching and learning center, provides guidance for students with special academic needs. Many Lehigh students are mentors in the STAR tutoring program for at-risk children. Lehigh faculty, staff and students are involved with year round programs through the Academic Outreach Office.
Whether you are a part of Lehigh's community or the local community, you will find that the two are integrated as one and Lehigh's commitment to the area is strong, active and diverse. We welcome you to explore these opportunities and encourage you to become involved in the activities Lehigh offers to the community.
