Application Tips and Guidelines

• Review the detailed job description for the position(s) in which you are interested and apply only for positions for which you are qualified. Vacant positions are available for review:

  • in the Lehigh University Human Resources Office. A staff member will be happy to assist you in locating the job description.

•  Submit complete and accurate information on your application and resume, including salary history and references where requested.  Lehigh generally conducts background checks regarding Social Security and education verification and county and state criminal checks.

  • Additional background checks will be required if the position for which you are applying involves fiduciary responsibility, transporting students, working in the dorms or overnight travel with students. For positions with these types of responsibilities a credit bureau report, department of motor vehicle report and/or child abuse report will be completed. Also, if applicable, professional license certification will be verified.
  • All references must be related to professional activities. Please inform your references that they may be contacted by Human Resources.

• Include in your cover letter, resume, and application the position title and job posting number and all job-related information explaining your skills, experience, and ability to successfully perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. Provide a preferred telephone number where you can be reached during the day.

Interviewing Process

•  The Human Resources Associate assigned to the position for which you are applying and/or the hiring department will review your qualifications.

•  You will be invited in for an interview by a Human Resources Representative if your qualifications and background closely match the requirements for the position. If not, candidates that submit a completed application and resume will remain in our applicant file for a period of six months.

•  If relevant to the job, you may be required to take a typing or other job-related test(s) to determine whether you meet minimum requirements for some positions.

•  Please be patient - the hiring process is often lengthy. If you haven't heard from us within three weeks and wish to know the current status of the position, you may call (610) 758-3900 Monday through Friday between 8:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., and inquire by referencing the job title and the department. If you are interviewed but not selected for a position, the Human Resources Office will notify you that the position has been filled.
