Internet Coordinator: Office of Distance Education

image1. What do you like best about your position?
Growing up in a teachers' family, I think I have the tendency to choose to do something that is related to education. My position gives me the chance to realize this expectation. My responsibilities involve frequent communications with faculty and distance students, which is the fun part because they are friendly, engaging and intelligent people to talk to.  In addition, as a part-time graduate student myself and with commitment to both a full-time job and a family, I understand what challenging lives most of our distance students are living. Knowing that I am part of the team that provides these adult learners with what they need at exactly the right time is rewarding to me.

2. What time do you arrive at work? What time do you leave work?
I usually come in at 8:30 a.m. and stay until 5:00 p.m. But sometimes when things come up with my family, I may come in late. But I always make sure I work 7.5 hours.

3. Why did you choose Lehigh University as your employer of choice?
The decision was easily made when I was offered the job. As a former Lehigh student, I knew so well about Lehigh and the people I was going to work with. I knew my knowledge and skills would be put to good use and I was proved right. My boss and colleagues have been very supportive since the first day I started my job here. I never regretted my choice.

4. What Lehigh University events and activities have you participated in beyond your department to become a more active member of the Lehigh community?
As a former international student and now an employee at Lehigh, I always try to participate in the activities hosted by the Office of International Students and Scholars. By being part of international community, I was able to know more people from different countries and understand more about their traditions and culture. To me Lehigh represents a good picture of best of American society - friendly, competitive but fair, and full of energy.

5. What is your favorite location on campus and why?
My favorite locations on campus are Linderman Library and Goodman Campus. I have loved reading and sports since I was very young. Lehigh provides the best environment that anybody can hope for. Linderman Library is definitely a piece of art and I will never be tired of going to that building if I have to go there ten times a day. I just love the ceilings, the window panel and the smell of old books. And the track field at Goodman Campus has been part of my daily life. My husband and I always take our five-year-old daughter there. We run together. When it is getting dark, a lot of fireflies will come out. It is so much fun to see my little one chase the fireflies around and hear her heartfelt laughter.

6. What do you like best about working for an academic institution?
I think the best part of working for an academic institution is I know that I am doing something that will impact young people's lives. Young kids are molded and shaped here. And I know every phone call I make and every email I send out can make our students' day. I always try to do my job in a way so that students by the end of day would look back and say "after all, life is beautiful." I know a lot of Lehigh employees hold the same attitude as mine, which is what makes Lehigh different from anywhere else.
