Associate Alumni Director: Alumni Association
1. What do you like best about your position?
I value knowing so many people on campus who serve the university in diverse ways. Over the years I have established close working relationships and friendships with members of the Lehigh University community across campus. Because of the longevity of many staff members and their dedication to their work, it is so valuable to know that they are there to support my work and I reciprocate.
Our alumni are very special and I have enjoyed learning about Lehigh history from the older generation of alumni, as well as working with younger alumni who continue the tradition of volunteerism and loyalty.
Our alumni association staff is truly a family who assist each other to provide the best service to our alumni, and who also share their concern and support on a personal level.
I am pleased to work with so many talented and dedicated staff members who comprise a Lehigh community that strives for excellence.
2. What time do you arrive at work? What time do you leave work?
My most productive work time is in the morning, so I like to arrive early especially during the spring when we are preparing for reunion. Leaving work . . . that depends on what is happening throughout our activity year . . . I can't say that I leave at the prescribed hour. But, I am striving to balance my work and personal time.
3. Why did you choose Lehigh University as your employer of choice?
I came to Lehigh as a graduate student and teaching assistant, and am forever grateful for the Lehigh education that transformed my life. Giving back to Lehigh is a lifetime commitment for me.
4. What Lehigh University events and activities have you participated in beyond your department to become a more active member of the Lehigh community?
Over the years I have enjoyed assisting with special events on campus - several staff dinners, Communiversity Day, a farewell for the previous University president, and the current president's inauguration. By serving on the Employee Relations Advisory Committee (ERAC) for two terms, I met people from many other departments on campus. I was also the advisor for the Graduate Student Council and enjoyed assisting them with their programs and relationship with university management.
5. What is your favorite location on campus and why?
The Alumni Building lobby and Leadership Plaza evoke the feeling that there is something special about Lehigh. For me the area epitomizes what a university should look like - its architecture elicits a sense of grandeur - a place where the intellect is free to soar, yet it is also welcoming and invites visitors and the campus community to explore what is inside. The walkway leading to the front doors is impressive and exudes a sense of strong academic tradition. The building is also special because it is dedicated to our alumni who fought in World War I. Their spirit is ever present and welcomes new students. The gargoyles keep watchful eyes on all those who enter.
6. What do you like best about working for an academic institution?
Lehigh provides so much opportunity for learning outside the workplace. You could attend an event on campus almost every evening, and learn from a diverse group of guest speakers, actors, and musicians. Over the years I have had the privilege to attend many programs, and appreciate working in an environment that presented those opportunities.
