Dr. Alice P. Gast was installed as Lehigh University’s 13th president on April 13, 2007, during a formal inauguration ceremony. She is a world-renowned scholar, researcher and academic leader with a strong commitment to students and teaching. Previously, Dr. Gast was associate provost and vice president for research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before moving to MIT in 2001, Dr. Gast spent 16 years as professor of chemical engineering at Stanford University.

Her achievements were recognized by the National Academy of Sciences Award for Initiative in Research; the Colburn Award of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; the Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Gast was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was named an American Association for the Advancement of Science fellow in early 2007.

President Gast has been warmly welcomed into the Lehigh family, and looks forward to sharing her vision of Lehigh’s future as a leader in research and academic excellence.
