Candidates for Class Officers for the Class of 2009

Candidate for President : Andrew Kent

image

Hello, my name is Andrew Kent, and I am excited to be running for your class president. As an experienced leader throughout high school, including captaining two varsity sports and being an active member of the school committee, I know what it takes to be in charge. In addition to being a leader, I also take the initiative to get things done. I have started clubs at school, and see things through to the end. Already this year I have been in charge of intramurals for my building.

As your freshman class president, my goal is to be your voice. I want to know any suggestions or thoughts that you think will better our class. Rather than list what I think should be done, I will look forward to hearing the thoughts of everyone. I hope that this open minded policy will both better and unite the class.

If we unite together as freshmen, the Class of 2009 will accomplish great things. As a fellow freshman, I will stand by my decisions, because they will affect me as much as will you. If you vote for me, all of you’re wildest dreams will come true.

Candidate for President: Daniel Jay (DJ) Glazer

Dear Fellow Classmates,

My name is Daniel Jay (D.J.) Glaser and I’m a proud member of the extraordinary class of 2009. I grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and attended Brookline High School (five minutes from Boston College.) Over the past four years, I’ve demonstrated many exceptional qualities, which can benefit our class immensely.

Unequivocally, leadership, initiative and responsibility epitomize what it means to be president. My personal history and track record prove that I am highly qualified for the important job. As founder of Rotary Interact in Brookline, Ma., I built the foundation, set the concrete and expanded the structure of its powerful and thriving organization. Through community service and international relief projects, I actively united the student body of my high school. This strong inventiveness and vigorous persistence positively affected the lives of many.

I’m running for class president because my pride in Lehigh and the dedication of my character will go unparalleled. As president, my diligent, bighearted, and open-minded personality will enable me to positively influence our class. It is evident by my large entourage of good-looking women, that I’m approachable and friendly. I want every member of our class to have a voice in any and all decisions and ideas that surface. However, one idea that has already come to mind is instituting a freshman formal before winter exams begin. How does that sound?

Like Lehigh, my personality is a two-sided coin; work hard, play hard. My outgoing and energetic nature will lead to fun for all those who join. Therefore, without further ado, Daniel Jay will go all the way, to make you proud to say, you are a member of the mighty fine class of ’09!

Thank you, G-d bless and Go Hawks

Candidate for President: Mitchell Goldich

I am an enthusiastic, energetic and creative leader. I am very passionate about everything I get involved in, and right now I am driven to improve Lehigh for our class. I will work as hard as I can to make our home for the next four years the best it can be while helping to plan events that you will remember for the rest of your lives. I am very approachable and I love talking to people and hearing their ideas. If you see me around campus at classes, meals, sporting events or even if you’re just on facebook at 2 in the morning I would be glad to hear anything you have to say about our class and how to improve it. I do not just want to lead our class, I want to represent it.

I am also extremely qualified for the position and have had many leadership opportunities in the past. I was president of the student body at my Hebrew School for two years as well as several clubs in my high school, so I have plenty of experience communicating with a student body and achieving their goals. As captain of my wrestling and cross country teams, I developed great leadership and motivational skills. I also know the value of service and have always been active in my community helping with handicapped kids.

One of my main goals is to completely unify the class. Imagine what it would feel like to look around during our graduation and realize that you know every single student. I want to be able to help you make the most out of your years here by helping you meet everyone and get involved in everything. College is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would love to have the chance to help ensure the best four years possible.

In addition to any of my credentials or ideas, I think that I am an animated, fun guy who is a good representative of Lehigh as a whole and of our class. I know what our class wants and I am more than willing to hear more. I can promise 106% dedication to Lehigh ‘09 and whatever we want to accomplish I will set out to do.

Candidate for President: Scott Wojciechowski

My name is Scott Wojciechowski – Scottie Wo for short. I am originally from Pittsburgh and live in Upper Cents. Just like you, I hope to make my four years here at Lehigh the best years of my life. To make these years fun, we have to customize them to our lives and what WE want. I am running for the president of the class of 2009 because I am the person to make those dreams become a reality. I am aggressive, resourceful, and I get the job done. I am more than qualified with years of experience in student council and extensive leadership training. I cannot commit myself to specific initiatives now, but I promise to you that I will always listen and be open for you to talk about your ideas, and that your ideas will be appreciated and considered. I will then voice these opinions to our faculty and administration to bring about change. The class of ’09 is the biggest and brightest class Lehigh has ever seen, let’s keep it that way. It’s Time to Make Lehigh Ours - Vote Scott Wojciechowski.

Candidate for Vice President: Jenna Paradiso

image

It may not have white sand beaches, palms trees swaying in the breeze, or deep blue oceans, but what it does have is plenty of green grass to tailgate at, a spectacular view from Dravo and Rathbone, and a variety of new people to meet and establish everlasting friendships with. It is our very own Lehigh University. Lehigh is a new home to all of us, and we have all indulged in its plethora of opportunities. However, we should not stop there. Why not make it even better? Why not make Lehigh our own little paradise on the side of a mountain?

My name is Jenna Paradiso. I am a proud Lehigh student, and I am running for vice president of our class. I want to make Lehigh a paradise for each one of you. Not just even for our first year here, but for our next four years that we will spend together.

Creating unity and building tremendous spirit within our class is essential to make Lehigh the best experience for every freshman. If elected for Class of 2009’s Vice President I will particularly focus on these two aspects. I will strive to provide interesting class events, and several opportunities to build our class a strong foundation with the campus, and community.

I have more than enough experience for the position of Class of 2009’s Vice President. I was extremely involved in my high school as I participated in numerous clubs and organizations, many of which I held leadership offices in. Being secretary of my school, Class Council chair, and liaisons to several major community service organizations has provided me with the necessary leadership skills. I could not imagine not being just as active at Lehigh and in our class.

What would make Lehigh a paradise to you? The most important thing is what the class of 2009 needs and wants. Any ideas or suggestions are encouraged and will be listened to with willingness if I was elected our class vice president. I could help make Lehigh that paradise for you. Vote Jenna Paradiso for Class of 2009’s vice president.

Candidate for Vice President: John Dao

imageSo, you guys may have heard that I am running for Vice President. That may or may not be true, but the only way to find out is to vote me in. So if you love surprises and good times, vote me as VP of ’09!

Ok, all kidding aside, I know I would make a great VP because I can cover up a scandal well unlike Al Gore. (Sorry, still kidding) My other qualifications include public speaking because of my prior work on the debate team (please don’t call me a master debater, its not true) and I have experience networking because I worked in Allentown City Gov’t for a while as a student Human Relations Officer. I’ve made many local connections over the years and I’m looking to use them to help our Class succeed in doing great things.

But most importantly, I know what I’m doing. So I ask that you trust me with your vote, and I will trust you to help me make this experience the best you’ll ever have. I’m in Dravo A203 if you have any questions!

Candidate for Treasurer: Nathan Punwani

image

My name is Nathan Punwani, and I want to be the Treasurer of the Class of 2009. As Treasurer, I promise to go beyond my duty of managing our class’ finances. I will be a representative of the students to ensure all our needs are met by the administration and our student government. Every student’s voice will be heard and answered. Our school is confronted by numerous challenges, and I offer solutions to make life at Lehigh as comfortable and enjoyable as possible:

  • Academics & Athletics: The Student Senate currently funds several academic programs because the administration does not want to do the job itself. This not only leads to a large amount of inefficiency, but also comes with an incredible lack of financial oversight. I want trim as much pork from the budget, removing waste and defunding programs that are ineffective. I will protect our funds and spend money on activities that will unite our class (parties, dances, etc.).
  • Construction:I will address the enormous construction projects that continue to affect the campus. From traffic jams to the difficulty of getting to classes, construction shapes our life on campus everyday. The university is even paving Maginnes field less than a year after the school spent several thousand dollars for new grass. I promise to make sure the impacts of traffic and construction are included in all future budges.
  • Food & Dining:As treasurer, I will guarantee funding for the advancement of student life. Lamberton Diner was originally planned to be a 24-hour cafeteria. However, the administration has altered plans of the diner, changing the menu, the prices, and the hours of operation. During finals period, Rathbone will undergo a series of renovations, making it harder for students to get good dining. All of these policies are making the campus less promising. I strongly believe these actions should be reversed in order to ease the lives of the people at Lehigh. The fiscal consequences of these decisions must be taken into account.

The office of Treasurer is more than just adding and subtracting numbers. I will provide strong, decisive leadership to make sure Lehigh reaches its utmost potential. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences, but together, as a class, we will make progress. Leadership is about getting the job done and moving forward. I promise to be an active steward of Lehigh University. Thank you.

Candidate for Treasurer: Alex Ruderman

imageHello, my name is Alex Ruderman, and I am running for the position of Treasurer for the Class of 2009. I am a student in the Integrated Business Engineering Honors program intending to major in Industrial Engineering. My political career started in high school where I participated as a representative for Cherry Hill East Class of 2005. There I helped our class with some amazing programs such as a Dodgeball Tournament which raised $2,000 for Tsunami relief. Over the summer of 2003, I was chairman of a camp charity bazaar which went on to raise a large sum of money for many different groups. Along with previous experience, I also the ambition needed for this job. I have plans to raise and maintain a strong class budget. I want the money of the Class of 2009 to go to do things for the Class of 2009. My Goals are to provide the Class of 2009 exciting enriching opportunities, but also remembering those less fortunate. Meaning planning some charity fundraiser events that are beneficial to the community but at the same time fun for everyone. At the same time, however, I will be sure to keep the organization of the classes money as my top priority. I will work with classmates who have the idea for events or better ways to manage the money of our class. As treasurer, I will work with the other elected officers to make the Class of 2009 the best class to ever come through Lehigh University.

Candidate for Treasurer: Stuart Schnabolk

imageI am seeking the position of Treasurer of the Class of 2009 because I believe I can help make our class the best yet, and not just academically. I intend to do this in a multitude of ways. The first is by filling the minimum requirements of the job by working with the board to conduct the necessary events and keep the financial data up to date. However, beyond this minimum is where I will truly excel as the class treasurer. Instead of giving monthly updates on resources I would do weekly updates so the board always knew the current financial picture. More events would be conducted to raise funds and also to do work for charity, however I would push to do new and innovative events. Also, since the board is only four people, I would push for asking the rest of the 1200 freshman their ideas. I have found that others not involved will come up with some of the best and most innovative ideas for events.

I also intend to keep the entire class active in events. My goal is to help get over three quarters of the class to events held. This goal is high, but I believe it can be achieved. At the end of my freshmen year I ran for my temple’s youth group board. I ran for the fundraising job (the money went to charity), and said that I would raise $2000 dollars in just one school year. When I finished my first year in office I went above this goal and did the same for the next year. This story is to show that if I set a goal I will work towards it. Three quarters of the class at events is high, but setting a high goal will make me work harder.

I also hope to raise more then any other freshman class has ever. I don’t know what this amount is, however it doesn’t matter, and as treasurer I will help the board raise more money then that class. For this is the reason why the Class of 2009 will be the best class Lehigh has ever seen in all of its attributes.

Candidate for Secretary: Alissa Perez

Hi my name is Alissa Perez and I’m running for class secretary. As secretary of the Executive Board in high school my senior year, I am fully aware of the duties that the job entails. My job was to take minutes at every meeting, take attendance, and basically be the organizer of the group. The Executive Board as a whole was responsible for planning and running many events such as the coffeehouses, school dances, walk-a-thons, open houses, etc. At each of these events I was required to take attendance of all the other student council members present. Being a member of the Executive Board demanded a lot of dedication and hard work, two qualities that I am ready to contribute here at Lehigh. I am also a very good listener and am always open for new ideas, so as secretary I would be able to record any suggestions you may have and bring them up to the rest of the class officers. My extremely neat handwriting skills also come in handy for the position of secretary. If elected secretary, my goals would be to effectively work well with the other class officers to organize different events for the school year. I am always willing to help out in any way I can, and I always do it with a smile. Even though the Executive Board was one of toughest things I have ever done, I am so glad I decided to do it because I was able to make a difference in my school. I am very friendly, so feel free to say hi if you see me around campus. Good luck to all the other candidates!
