There are several options available for the selection of courses for the remaining 15 credits in the M.S. program. Students are encouraged to consult with the M.S. Advisor about following one of the areas of emphasis outlined below:
Financial Economics Emphasis
Courses offered by the economics, finance and mathematics departments may be used to complete the M.S. degree with an emphasis on finance. Topics covered in this emphasis are valuation, risk management, portfolio theory, options and derivatives.
Business Economics Emphasis
Courses offered by the accounting, economics, finance, industrial and systems engineering and management and marketing departments provide an emphasis on business economics. The focus here is on the quantitative analysis of strategic and operational business decisions through the application of models drawn from applied microeconomic theory and statistical analysis of data.
Policy Economics Emphasis
Courses offered by the economics, history, political science and sociology departments provide the student with a public policy emphasis. These courses highlight the analysis of economic problems and both actual and proposed public policies designed to address them.
