Lehigh's Master of Science program in Economics emphasizes applied economics and the application of economic analysis to related disciplines. Growth in both the business consulting and financial services industries has generated a strong demand for business analysts. One reason is that decision models drawn from applied microeconomic theory are particularly useful in analyzing a firm's business potential and determining the investment value of a firm. Furthermore, individuals with strong analytical skills are in a unique position to contribute to important operational decisions. With advanced instruction in quantitative business methods, students with a good background in mathematics, science, or engineering can form an exceptionally strong foundation for a career in business consulting, finance, marketing and other business fields. For example, recent graduates of Lehigh's M.S. in Economics program have been hired in positions such as business consultants, business and financial analysts, market and pricing analysts, and economic researchers.
Some students elect to take the masters program as a stepping-stone to the Ph.D degree. In any case, students may pursue the program on either a full-time or a part-time basis. Those who pursue full-time study can usually complete the program in one calendar year. There is no requirement for prior work experience.
Approximately 10 to 12 students begin the M.S. Economics program each year. Classes are small, and students have close contact with faculty. If you are interested in our program, please feel free to contact me at 610-758-3460 or at rjt1@lehigh.edu.
