LEHIGH UNIVERSITY
(2) Tenure Track Positions
Department of Accounting
Associate/Assistant

A dynamic accounting department, ranked the #1 undergraduate accounting program in 2008 by Business Week, a successful M.S. in Accounting and Information Analysis program, the 25th best undergraduate business school according to Business Week, and 5th in Business Week’s top part time MBA programs are reasons to respond to this invitation.  We seek well-trained scholars/teachers with strong research skills for two open positions (with preference to hire at the assistant professor rank) to join Lehigh University’s Accounting faculty in Fall 2009.

Our priority is to attract strong researchers, interested in joint research with other faculty, and experienced in working with a variety of research methodologies and topics.  Individuals nearing the completion of their doctoral program will be considered for the rank of assistant professor. Those desiring consideration at the rank of either associate or full professor must possess an established research and teaching record, including evidence of a portfolio of research in progress. All areas will be considered.

These two positions are part of an unprecedented Business College hiring plan which includes authorization to hire 12 tenure-track faculty across all disciplines for the second consecutive academic year. Lehigh’s College of Business and Economics faculty members are excited about this comprehensive hiring plan and the arrival of Dean Paul Brown, former accounting chair at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Paul is an experienced scholar and academic leader with significant international and corporate experience.  The Accounting Department is particularly proud that we hired three outstanding individuals this past year: one at the rank of a chaired full-professor and two at the rank of assistant professor level.

Founded in 1865, Lehigh University is a private, residential, non-sectarian institution, strategically located within 90 minutes driving time of New York City and Philadelphia.  The university enrolls approximately 4,800 undergraduates and 2,000 graduate students.  Ranking 31st among national doctoral degree granting universities in the 2008 US News & World Report survey, Lehigh places in the most competitive category in Peterson’s Guide and Barron’s Profile of American Colleges. The College of Business and Economics enrolls some 1370 undergraduate and 390 graduate students and has 59 full-time faculty housed in the excellent physical facilities of the Rauch Business Center.

We believe a supportive research environment, well-published colleagues, excellent students, solid relations with public accounting/investment banking firms, and committed alumni make Lehigh’s Accounting Department attractive to those focused on both research and teaching. We will be interviewing candidates at the AAA meeting in Anaheim, California. Qualified women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.

As soon as possible, candidates should send a letter of interest, their curriculum vita, names of three references, and dissertation proposal or examples of scholarly work to Dr. Parveen P. Gupta, Chair, Department of Accounting, Lehigh University, 621 Taylor Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015-3117. Electronic submissions (inaccdep@lehigh.edu) are strongly encouraged and should be headed with subject “2008 Recruiting”. Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Parveen P. Gupta at 610-758-3443 for any questions or information.
