Frank Gunter is an Associate Professor of Economics who received his Ph.D. in Political Economy from Johns Hopkins University in 1985. His primary area of research is country risk analysis and he has published studies of the economies of Iraq, China, Colombia, and Latvia.
At the undergraduate level, Professor Gunter teaches Principles of Economics, Economic Development Theory, Economic Development of China and, beginning in Spring Semester 2007, Economic Development of Iraq. He has also taught International Trade, Economic Development and Country Risk Analysis in the MBA and Ph.D. programs. For excellence in teaching, Professor Gunter has won both the Lehigh University Award and the Stabler Award.
In 2005-2006, Professor Gunter was in Baghdad, Iraq for seven months as the Chief, Economics Division, Multi-National Force - Iraq. He has also been a consultant for the United Nations Development Program, the U.S. Department of the Navy, the Inter-American Development Bank as well as government entities in China and Colombia.
An organizer of the Lehigh in China program, he led four student groups to the People's Republic of China for a five-week course on the country's economy and business environment.
Prior to joining the Lehigh Faculty in 1983, he spent two years as a country risk analyst for the First National Bank of Chicago and a semester as an economic intern at the International Trade Commission.
