Michael G. Kolchin is currently professor of management and the associate dean for graduate studies at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Professor Kolchin has taught at Lehigh for the past 27 years in various areas of management, including organizational behavior and theory, human resource management, strategic management, negotiations, and purchasing and supply management. His research interests include purchasing performance, comparative purchasing, and buying strategies. He has published numerous articles and papers in both refereed and practitioner journals and has conducted three research studies for the Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies (CAPS). He is also a co-author of Purchasing: Principles and Applications.
Professor Kolchin earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and received his doctorate from Indiana University. He is also a certified purchasing manager.
Prior to entering the academic world, Professor Kolchin worked as buyer for the Procter and Gamble Company and as the corporate Purchasing Director for Federated Department Stores, Inc., both in Cincinnati. He also served as the interim corporate purchasing director for Associated Dry Goods Corporation in New York. In addition, Professor Kolchin has participated in the design and delivery of numerous training programs in supply management and negotiations with many large corporations, both in the U.S. and abroad.
Professor Kolchin has also been active in the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) at both the local and national levels and has made a number of presentations to this organization's annual international conferences.
