Janet G. Davidson, 1978

Janet G. Davidson is Alcatel-Lucent’s Chief Comliance Officer.  She also oversees the company’s intellectual property, new ventures activities, product and information training services, and work with standards bodies.  In this position, she leads the effort to evolve Alcatel-Lucent’s strategy and shape the company’s vision for next-generation networks based on the IMS architecture.

Prior to her current position, Davidson was president, Integrated Network Solutions, the Alcatel-Lucent unit that designs and delivers wireline networks for the world’s largest communications service providers.  She was responsible for the company’s Convergence Solutions, Optical Networking, Data Networking, Access Networks, Network Operations Software and Design Chain & Technology Platforms businesses.

Previously, Davidson was group president of Lucent Technologies' InterNetworking Systems, Network Operations Software and Switching Solutions. She was named group president of InterNetworking Systems (INS) in early 2000, added responsibility for the Network Operations Software (NOS) group in December 2000, and became group president of the combined INS and Switching Solutions units in May 2001.

Davidson was also president of the Access Networks division of InterNetworking Systems. Under Davidson's leadership, Access Networks was the industry leader in remote access and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) networking and established a significant position in the digital subscriber line (DSL) market.

Davidson's experience within Lucent also includes vice president, North America in the Service Provider Networks organization, responsible for sales to Sprint, MCI WorldCom, and all emerging service providers in North America.

Davidson began her career as a member of technical staff in Bell Labs. She has more than 20 years of experience in software design and development, global product strategy, marketing and product management. Other assignments include product management vice president for Lucent's Access business in 1996 and Broadband Access Program Management Vice President, where she was responsible for broadband network construction in California.

Davidson is on the Board of Directors for the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J., and serves on the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science Advisory Board at Lehigh University.  Davidson was inducted into the 1999 Academy of Women Achievers of the YWCA of the City of New York, which honors women of high achievement.  In October 2001, Fortune 500 named Davidson one of the top 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, and was recognized by Working Woman Foundation with one of its first Women Enabling Science and Technology awards the same year.  In May 2005, Davidson received the 2005 Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award. 

Davidson received a bachelor's degree in physics from Lehigh University, a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, and a master's in Computer Science through Bell Laboratories.
