Edward Kelly is a partner with the law firm of Ropes & Gray of Boston, Massachusetts.

Ed serves as counsel to a diverse group of clients, including medical device manufacturers, software developers, local universities and international equipment manufacturers. He has written patent applications for surgical instruments, dual-beam laser interferometers, speech recognition systems, encryption algorithms, radio-frequency cauterizing catheters, and focused ion beam systems for semiconductor processing.

Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Kelly worked as a hardware and software design engineer in the Digital Signal Processing Group of Raytheon's Radar System Laboratory. At Raytheon, Ed worked on experimental phased-array radar systems and developed a high-speed super-computer interface. At Lehigh, Ed worked as a hardware and software design engineer developing autonomous vehicles for the National Institute of Standards and Technology and robotic vision systems for General Electric.

Ed earned the juris doctor from the Boston College Law School and the bachelor of science in electrical engineering at Lehigh University.
