Head of Clinical Investigation, Naval Medical Center (San Diego, CA)

Peter E. Linz is a cardiologist who is currently the Head of the Clinical Investigation Department at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA. He is a nationally recognized researcher in the fields of hypertension, lipid management and atrial fibrillation. He has served as the local principal investigator on over 13 multi-center clinical trials. He has been involved in the leadership and direction of a number of large multi-national studies including the recently completed NIH ACCORD Diabetes Trial. He has been actively involved in graduate medical education for more than 20 years, and was the program director for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego from 1997-2004. Dr. Linz is an Associate Professor of Medicine of the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Linz earned his undergraduate degree with a biochemistry major from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He earned his doctor of medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University in May of 1986. He completed a categorical medicine internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. After completion of a course of study at the Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute in Pensacola, FL, he was designated an Aviation Medical Officer and spent 2 years as a General Medical Officer at the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL. He then returned to the National Naval Medical Center where he completed his residency in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases, graduating in 1994.

Dr. Linz was then assigned as a staff cardiologist at Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton, where he worked for 3 years. In the summer of 1997 he transferred to the Naval Medical Center, San Diego were he has held numerous leadership positions over the last 16 years to include the Head of the Cardiology Disease Division from 1999 through 2005 and Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine from 2005 through 2008.

Dr. Linz is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a past Governor of American College of Cardiology. He is the President of Sentinel Development Corporation, a New York State commercial real estate holding company and is Vice President of the Lowey Family Foundation, a charitable trust.

Dr .Linz’s youngest son, Thomas, is a member of the 2014 class of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science.
