Lehigh’s
Civil Engineering program provides a broad base of learning and research opportunities that prepare undergraduate students to become leaders in industry with the skills and knowledge to help design and manage large-scale engineering projects that are typically characterized by great size, complexity, longevity, and cost. Students learn basic knowledge and how to apply it to projects such as bridges, buildings, transportation facilities, coastal facilities, off-shore platforms, dams, tunnels, foundations, and waterways.
Undergraduate students in the program have the opportunity to work on projects and research with internationally recognized faculty and in world-class experimental facilities such as those in our
Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems Research Center and our
National Science Foundation-supported
Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation. Our Civil Engineering students have made presentations at several national conferences, competitions, and industry meetings and have received many national awards and recognition for their project work and designs.
Lehigh Civil Engineering students also have the opportunity to take part in Lehigh’s Integrated Learning Experience (ILE) program which encourages innovation and initiative while teaching teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. Students are encouraged to work on projects with their peers from other disciplines, including architecture, computer science, economics, industrial engineering, marketing, materials science, and mechanical engineering.
Junior and senior year Civil Engineering students can choose technical electives in structural engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulic engineering, and geotechnical engineering.
The Civil Engineering curriculum is designed to prepare its graduates to be leaders and innovators in a wide variety of future pursuits, not only as engineering professionals and as graduate students, but also for studies in engineering management, business administration, law, or medicine.
