Jointly administered by the department of computer science and engineering (CSE) and the department of electrical and computer engineering (ECE), the graduate program in computer engineering enables students to take part in cutting-edge research conducted by faculty from both disciplines. CSE and ECE professors attract funding for research programs in three broad areas of computer engineering:
Computer arithmetic and computer architecture
Digital Signal Processing systems
Wireless communications and network systems
Because admission to the program is selective, there is an excellent faculty-to-student ratio, and students readily develop close interactions with computer engineering professors. Upon entering the program, students are encouraged to initiate research in the research area of individual professors under their careful guidance.
Sponsors of Research Projects
Research by computer engineering faculty is sponsored by DARPA, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense, the Office of Naval Research, the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance, the Ben Franklin Technology Center, Lucent, Agere, and other industrial sponsors.
Affiliated Research Centers, Laboratories, and Institutes:
