Graduate Degrees offered:M.S., M.Eng. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering
Graduate students in
Chemical Engineering (ChE) work closely with professors who are renowned for their research and who uphold the highest standards of research and publication. Research opportunities fall into five broad areas:
- Polymer Science and Engineering, which has ties to the departments of Chemistry, Physics, and Materials Science and Engineering;
- Biotechnology, which links with Lehigh’s Bioengineering program as well as the department of Biological Sciences;
- Catalysis and surface science, which includes close work with Lehigh’s Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology (CAMN);
- Process modeling and control, which has ties to the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics, and Electrical and Computer Engineering;
- Transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and chemical reaction engineering.
Laboratory facilities in the Chemical Engineering department are state-of-the-art, research funding is strong, and the department maintains close ties with more than 50 industrial and corporate sponsors in the U.S.
Chemical Engineering faculty cooperate actively with international researchers and hold high offices in the American Institute for Chemical Engineers and other professional societies.
Sponsors of Research ProjectsResearch in the ChE department is sponsored by NSF, ONR, DOE, Air Products and Chemicals, Dow Corning, ExxonMobil, ICI, Aspen Technology, BOC, DuPont, FMC, Honeywell, PADC, PITA, and Georgia-Pacific Corp.
