Lehigh’s
Electrical Engineering program offers a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes the fundamentals of the discipline, while preparing students to become leaders in industry and/or to pursue advanced graduate studies. The program covers a broad set of specialties within this dynamic, interdisciplinary field, and offers numerous opportunities for engineering design and hands-on learning experience. Students receive disciplinary training and learn analytical thinking skills, which they can apply to problems on circuit design, electronic and optical components, sensors, biomedical devices, and diverse systems, including microelectronic, control, information, computer and communication systems.
The program is founded upon a faculty of gifted researchers that make teaching a priority, and it provides dynamic opportunities for students to work on research projects with professors and in internships with industry. It has recently undergone a significant expansion and increase in the ratio of faculty to students.
In their junior and senior years, students can choose technical electives in the following tracks: solid state circuits, signal processing and communications, microwaves and lightwaves, and computers.
Faculty in Electrical Engineering lead cutting-edge research efforts in emerging areas such as nanotechnology, optoelectronics, fiber optics, flexible displays, microelectronics fabrication, bioengineering, information and communications technology, wireless networking, signal processing, and image compression. World-class laboratory facilities across Lehigh’s campus, especially in microelectronics, photonics, electromagnetics, and information processing, allow students to become familiar with all facets of the discipline.
Students collaborate with faculty in research projects across these areas, and are encouraged to take advantage of Lehigh’s
Cooperative Education program, which offers qualifying engineering majors up to eight months in paid industrial internship positions while still graduating in four years. Some students of the program also qualify for independent internships with local industries.
