This innovative program offers students in the College of Business & Economics and the College of Arts & Sciences the opportunity to earn a minor in engineering. The ultimate goal of this unique program is to provide students with insight into the world of engineers; who they are, what they do, and how they think. The Minor in Engineering student will develop an understanding of the tools and techniques engineers use on a day-to-day basis.
Participants in the engineering minor program will compliment their majors by gaining an understanding of engineering professionals and the engineering principles they employ. As a result, students will dramatically improve their ability to communicate with engineers.
Some students may use these abilities to create innovative new product concepts. Others will find the insights important in crafting marketing campaigns, financial strategies, or in managing or being managed by engineers. The goal for the new engineering minor program is to increase the serendipity factor, or creative discovery, that occurs when professionals who understand each other communicate and collaborate on opportunities for wealth creation in innovative ways.
The engineering minor program was first offered in the fall of 2004. All students who participate in the minor take two required courses, and choose three electives. This allows all participants to tailor their learning experiences to their specific career goals.
Please note: The Minor in Engineering is available to students in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and in the College of Business and Economics. The courses that comprise the minor cannot be taken by students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. A minor in engineering is not available to students enrolled as majors in the College of Engineering & Applied Science.
