Deadlines

Application deadlines are determined by each department. Please contact the department you are applying to in order to find out the deadlines.

A complete application consists of:

1. Completed Engineering Graduate Application for Admission;
2. Official transcripts from all post-secondary education institutions attended;
3. Official record of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores;
4. $65 application fee;
5. Two letters of recommendation.

Continuing students who request fellowships, scholarships, RA's, TA's, and GA's which will begin in the fall semester must file a request with their academic department no later than February 1. New students who request financial aid should so indicate on the "Application for Financial Aid" to be submitted with the regular application for graduate study.

Further information may be found in the Graduate Student Handbook.

Applications for financial aid to begin in the fall term must be filed no later than January 15.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance for Graduate Students is available in several forms:

  • Scholarships cover all or part of the cost of tuition. Awards are based on academic promise and financial need. No services are required in return.
  • Fellowships are provided by donors, corporations and government agencies. Awards, which are made by the university, include a monthly stipend and tuition remission. No duties are required of the recipient. Awards are based on superior performance as an undergraduate and graduate student.
  • Research Assistantships typically provide a stipend plus tuition remission. Duties include assisting with research programs sponsored by industrial concerns, technical associations and government agencies. Requirements include an interest in, and qualifications for, the research being performed.
  • Teaching Assistantships provide a stipend plus tuition. Duties include helping the faculty grade undergraduate quizzes and homework, and helping teach classes and laboratories. Qualifications include graduation from an engineering or related curriculum and a demonstrated competence in speaking and writing English.

Admission Requirements

Admission Status

An applicant may enter the graduate program as a regular or an associate graduate student. Only regular graduate students are candidates for graduate degrees. Students who do not wish to enter a degree program may be admitted with a non-degree status; an appropriate application form can be found here.  International students must be admitted under regular status for immigration paperwork to be completed. Except for qualified Lehigh undergraduates, only those who have been officially admitted as regular, associate, or non-degree students may register for graduate courses.

In general, associate status is granted to those applicants who apply after the department's deadline for applications, who do not completely qualify for regular status because some element of the application is absent or incomplete, or who submit inadequate documentation of competencies in certain key areas. However, since each department's classification and requirements of associate students is different, you must check with the department to determine if you qualify to be admitted under associate status. Associate students must complete the first nine consecutive credit hours with at most one grade level below B-. They will not be permitted to continue if they receive a grade below C. After nine credit hours of coursework, associate students must petition for regular status. Individual departments may require more rigorous probationary standard.

Policy of Equality

It is the policy of Lehigh University to provide equal opportunity on the basis of merit and without discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, age, national original citizenship status, handicap, or veteran status.

International Students

International applicants to the Graduate Programs of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent foreign degree. Applicants must submit all documents listed under above, including the application fee in the form of a check or money order from a U.S.-affiliated banking institution. All transcripts must be official copies validated by a school administrative officer. They must be in the original language with an official translation attached. All applicants whose native language is not English must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores. A minimum score of 550 for paper based scores or 213 for computer based scores is required for admission. The Test of Written English (TWE) is strongly recommended. Test of Spoken English (TSE) is required for applicants for teaching assistantships. TOEFL and TWO information may be obtained from:

Immigration paperwork will be expedited if proof of support is sent with the application. See the Application for Financial Aid for the exact requirements. For more information, see International Students and Scholars.
