Our department offers advanced coursework in four areas of concentration:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Water Resources Engineering

Students can pursue an M.S., M. Eng. or Ph.D. degree in civil, structural or environmental engineering.

As a graduate student in Lehigh’s CEE program, you’ll conduct real-world research across a wide range of disciplines — from using electrokinetics and nanoparticles to decontaminate groundwater to running some of the world’s largest structural tests on innovative infrastructure systems.

Where can your Lehigh degree take you?

Employers in search of engineering talent consistently find it in Lehigh graduates. Career paths that begin here lead to work in academics, government, industry and beyond. Recent Ph.D. graduates are now faculty members at:
  • Auburn University
  • Cleveland State University
  • Ohio University
  • Princeton University
  • Purdue University
  • The University of Texas – Tyler
  • University of Illinois
  • University of Notre Dame
  • Widener University

Select students enjoy industry support in the form of scholarship awards and prime externship opportunities through our Structural Engineering Professional Master’s Degree Program. Pictured above are the 2008-09 scholarship award recipients, one of whom is Elizabeth Bava.

Lehigh graduates work in government service for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Leading engineering firms that employ Lehigh grads include:

More than a dozen alumni and faculty have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering.

M. Eng. in Structural Engineering – The Professional Fast Track

The Masters of Engineering (M. Eng.) Program prepares students who choose to pursue a planning and design career in a major structural engineering firm. As a student, you’ll be guided by a full-time Professor of Practice who brings extensive industry experience to the helm of this 10-month, 30-credit program. A three-course sequence focuses on the design of a major structural system, such as a bridge or building.

Make your mark on a major research projectimage

As a CEE graduate student at Lehigh, you may conduct research for sponsors such as:

  • The National Science Foundation
  • The U. S. Navy
  • The Office of Naval Research
  • The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance The Environmental Protection Agency
  • Electric Power Research Institute
  • The Department of Energy
  • The Department of Transportation

Lehigh’s laboratories are known for bringing real-world engineering challenges into the academic setting. You’ll learn and work in:
