Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Ph.D. Civil and Environmental Engineering, Princeton University, 2000
Dr. Brown conducts experimental and numerical research in Environmental Biotechnology. His research interests include effects of surfaces on bacterial metabolic activity; fate and transport of microorganisms through both saturated and unsaturated porous media; and biodegradation kinetics. He also conducts research on complex non-aqueous phase liquids, with a focus on coal tar. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Electric Power Research Institute, and the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance. Dr. Brown has held the Frank Hook and P.C. Rossin Assistant Professorships and received the Lehigh Engineering Ingenuity Award.
Dr. Brown teaches courses in Environmental Processes, Environmental Risk Assessment, and Environmental Biotechnology. He also teaches the senior environmental capstone design course.
