CSE Department Graduate Students
Jin Chen
Prior to coming to Lehigh to pursue a Ph.D., Jin Chen worked in industry for one year after completing a Bachelor’s degree in China. Adjusting to life in a different country was initially challenging but with the help of his advisor, Professor Dan Lopresti, Jin quickly transitioned to being a research-active Lehigh grad student. Jin is a member of the Pattern Recognition Lab and has been working on a biometric security project for the past two years. During Summer 2009, Jin was an intern at BBN Technologies in Boston where he performed research on offline Arabic handwriting recognition. Ovidiu Dan
Ovidiu’s previous research was centered around collecting and analyzing large amounts of online news articles. He is now building on this work by analyzing the relationship between social networks like Twitter and traditional news websites which could potentially have applications in several areas such as web search results ranking and business intelligence. Ed Kim
During his time here at Lehigh, Ed Kim has been able to research and explore all facets of his imagination in the areas of computer vision and graphics. Ed feels that the community here, especially in Professor Xiaolei Huang’s IDEA research lab, is one of collaboration and learning. He highly values the relationships that have been formed with the faculty, staff, and other students in the IDEA lab. Ed states that “the faculty at Lehigh seems to have a genuine interest in the students, both academically and personally. This environment enables all of us here to grow and ultimately produce ground-breaking research”. Prior to joining Lehigh, Ed did his undergraduate and masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania focusing in the area of computer science and computer graphics. Yaoyao Zhu
Yaoyao’s research focuses on medical image processing, an essential tool in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, and pattern recognition. She is involved in developing techniques and building tools for computerized analysis of medical images. Medical practitioners can use this computer analysis as a "second opinion" in detecting lesions and in making diagnostic decisions. Yaoyao is also involved in collaborative projects with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and Lehigh Valley Hospital. |
