Most of the software on the sun systems is installed in /apps using automount. So doing a simple

$ ls /apps

will not show what you want and will often be "empty". If you are looking for something issue the command

$ ypcat auto.apps

The output of this command will list the different application directories which can be mount, which will give you a better guess what is currently available. Note not all software is "mountable" on all machines and licensing restrictions may apply.
