Lehigh software yields clues to welding of stainless steel.
Software developed at Lehigh is helping researchers learn how to control the behavior of stainless steel when it is welded.  Herman Nied, professor and chair of mechanical engineering and mechanics, said recently in an invited talk and powerpoint presentation in Canada.....(cont.)

A new faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics:
Samir Ghadiali, assistant professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics, holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Cornell University and an M.S.E. and Ph.D.in biomedical engineering from Tulane University. As a research assistant professor in the pediatric otolaryngology department at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, he developed a multi-disciplinary bioengineering research program. Ghadiali's research interests include biofluid and biosolid mechanics, chemical transport phenomena and the development of advanced
computational models that can be used to improve and evaluate medical treatment therapies. His specific areas of research are surfactant transport dynamics, drug delivery in the pulmonary system, biomechanical analysis of tissue engineering therapies, fluid-structure interactions, cellular adhesion dynamics and multi-scale modeling of microbiological systems. Ghadiali has received the Louisiana Board of Regents scholarship and competitive research grants from the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the National Institutes of Health.

Prof. Rockwell delivers keynote at symposium on shallow flows

Tom Jackson: The Consummate Teacher
Thomas E. Jackson, or Tom as everyone called him, was a fixture of the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics Department (MEM) at Lehigh University for forty-one years, from his appointment as a faculty member in 1937 until his retirement in 1978.  A consummate teacher of thermodynamics and internal combustion engines, Tom personified the excellence and caring that typifies a Lehigh Professor of Engineering.
