- Donald Hillman has been selected as a member of the Source Selection Evaluation Board for DARPA's WNaN Adaptive Network Development Program. - Xiaolei Huang was awarded the Minority Junior faculty research award from the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback foundation, and recently had one paper accepted at the 10th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention. - Mooi Choo Chuah gave an invited talk on "Ferry-Based Intrusion Detection and Mitigation Schemes for Sparsely Connected Adhoc Networks" at the Wireless & Optical Communications Conference at NJIT, and co-chaired the IEEE Sarnoff Symposium at Princeton, NJ. - Brian Davison was a co-organizer of the 3rd AIRWeb workshop held in Banff, Canada, and gave invited talks at NYU’s Stern School of Business and at Polytechnic University. - Mark Arnold and co-authors have been selected to share the Best Paper award for "LNS Subtraction Using Novel Cotransformation and/or Interpolation" at the 18th IEEE International Conference on Application-specific Systems, Architectures and Processors in Montreal, Canada.
Dan Frangopol, professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and holder of the Fazlur Rahman Khan Endowed Chair, along with former PhD students Seung-Ie Yang and Luís C. Neves, has been selected to receive the 2006 Munro Prize, from the journal Engineering Structures - Elsevier. The journal is a forum for a broad blend of scientific and technical papers that reflects the evolving needs of the structural engineering and structural mechanics community. The prize-winning paper was selected from 185 articles published in 2006 in Engineering Structures. The paper presents a novel model for predicting the reliability of deteriorating bridges. The award will be presented at the ASCE Structures Congress, Vancouver, Canada, April 24-26, 2008.
James Hwang, professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, received a 2007 IBM Faculty Award – a competitive distinction that recognizes the quality of his research program and its importance to the computer industry. Other recipients this year include Steve Forrest of University of Michigan, Mark Lundstrom of Purdue University, and Kang Wang of UCLA.

Undergraduate chemical engineering student Emily Szabo ’08 has been selected by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) as a recipient of its Donald F. and Mildred Topp Othmer National Scholarship Award for 07-08. Emily was nominated by Professor Mayuresh Kothare of Chemical Engineering. Emily is the current president of Lehigh’s AIChE student chapter, a member of the Society of Women Engineers, and part of the Integrated Business and Engineering honors program.

The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science and the College of Arts and Sciences are co-hosting a workshop, scheduled for October 31 and November 1, entitled “Balancing Energy and the Environment: An Exploration of Future Research Needs.” Speakers and invited guests from Lehigh as well as colleagues from academia, government agencies and labs, and industry concerns will gather to seek out opportunities for collaboration in issues related to energy supply, delivery, consumption, environmental impact, and associated political and economic concerns.
