Cheng receives career grant from Lindback Foundation.

Liang Cheng, assistant professor of computer science and engineering, has received a Lindback Career-Enhancement Grant for minority junior faculty members.

The awards are given by the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation of Philadelphia to help faculty members finance summer or sabbatical leaves, conduct research and purchase equipment.

Cheng, who is director of the Laboratory Of Networking Group (LONGLAB), conducts research in sensor and ad hoc networks, middleware computing and architecture, network processing, and network management.

He holds a U.S. patent for a method of adapting a network application that is based on classifying types of communication links using fuzzy logic, he has contributed chapters to two books, and he has published 30 journal articles and conference papers.

Cheng teaches courses in computer networks, network systems design and programming languages.

The Lindback Foundation provides grants to institutions of higher education to promote teaching excellence. Lehigh is an invited participant in its award programs.
