Keith Gardiner, professor of industrial and systems engineering and director of the Center for Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and Seray Ozturk, a senior in the ISE department, presented papers at the Mid-Atlantic Section Spring Meeting of the American Society of Engineering Education at Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey.

Ozturk's paper, "Developing  a Practical Engineering Experience for First-Year Students," described students' experiences in Engineering 5: Introduction to Engineering Practice.

Gardiner's paper, "Knowledge-base Requirements for the future workforce,"  discussed educational and curriculum needs for the future workforce.

Both papers were jointly authored and published in the proceedings of the meeting.

Gardiner helped organize Engineering 5, formerly known as Freshman Design Experience, a course in which teams of freshman engineering students design and make products.
