University Deans and Lehigh Professors Meet to Enhance Technological Literacy Initiatives for K-12 Students

149 Education and Engineering Deans and Faculty from eight nations recently attended an IEEE Meeting to assess On-Campus Programs and to plan new ones.  A Miami conference from January 9-12, 2003 marked the ongoing growth of initiatives to increase technological literacy among precollege teachers and their students.

The meeting, "Deans Summit II: Fostering Campus Collaborations," involved education and engineering deans and faculty from around the world.  40 percent more universities and twice the number of countries attended than were present at Dean Summit I, held 15 months ago.

Attendees represented 65 colleges and universities from the U.S., Brazil, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan and Turkey. Their goal was to expand the range of collaborations between educators and  engineers that provide K-12 teachers with a stronger base in technology. They also addressed programs for technological outreach to local schools.

Lehigh Faculty William M. Pottenger, Glenn D. Blank and H. Lynn Columba also gave a presentation at the conference entitled:  "Using Multimedia Learning to Increase the Number of Women and Under-Represented Minorities in Computer Science & Engineering Education."
