CEE's Prof. Lu receives lifetime honor at conference on earthquake engineering
The conference, a major event for those interested in earthquake hazard mitigation issues, was sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Asia-Pacific Network of Centers of Earthquake Engineering Research (ANCER). The theme of the conference was "New Frontier and Research Transformation." Lu was given a crystal statue by ANCER and the Nanjing University of Technology, which organized the conference. The statue is inscribed with a portrait of Lu and a citation that reads, "In honor of Dr. Le-Wu Lu for his life-time achievement in earthquake engineering and his contribution to the civil engineering profession." After receiving the award, Lu gave a brief speech emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in earthquake engineering research, especially among the three major Pacific rim countries: China, Japan and United States, where earthquakes frequently occur.
