MEM faculty and students active at APS Fluid Mechanics meeting.

Faculty, visiting scientists and Ph.D. candidates in the department of mechanical engineering and mechanics gave 11 presentations at the recent annual meeting of the Division of Fluid Mechanics of the American Physical Society, which serves as an international focal point for fundamental advances in the field of fluid mechanics.

Prof. Philip A. Blythe gave a lead-off Invited Lecture titled "Non-Diffusive Gaseous Ignition." Blythe's research contributions were recognized by his election to an APS Fellowship.

Prof. Samir Ghadiali gave a presentation titled "Fluid-Structure Analysis of Opening Phenomena in a Collapsible Airway," and Prof. Takahiro Kiwata of Kanazawa University in Japan, who is spending a leave at the Fluid Mechanics Laboratories at Lehigh, discussed "Flow Structure of an Excited Plane Jet."

Emine Celik, Alis Ekmekci, Michel Elkhoury, Haojun Fu, Cagri Sever, Metin Yavuz and Yang Yingchen, who are all Ph.D. candidates, and post-doctoral visiting scientists Younjong Kim and Muammer Ozgoren gave presentations on aspects of flow-structure interaction, in conjunction with Prof. Donald Rockwell, who also chaired a session on vortex dynamics.
