ATLSS and IMF researchers give presentations to Navy

Seven Lehigh researchers receiving funding from the Office of Naval Research presented the results of their investigations last month at an annual workshop at the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Carderock Division in Bethesda, Md.

Representing the ATLSS (Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems) Research Center were Richard Sause, professor of civil and environmental engineering; Joachim Grenestedt, associate professor of mechanical engineering; Herman Nied, professor of mechanical engineering; Ben Yen, professor of civil and environmental engineering; and Jack Bower, deputy director of ATLSS. All five are doing research in stainless steel double ship hulls, composite hulls, and
stainless/composite hybrid hulls. Representing the Institute for Metal Forming were Wojciech Misiolek, associate professor of materials science and engineering and IMF director, and Pawel Kazanowski, who gave a review of their Maglev-related research.
