Pessiki honored for concrete achievements

Stephen Pessiki, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, received the PCI Distinguished Educator Award from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute at the group’s convention last month in Nashville, Tenn.

The award, which is given once a year to an engineer, architect or construction technician, recognizes significant contributions to the precast, prestressed concrete industry.

Pessiki conducts research into precast seismic structural systems, the thermal performance of precast concrete construction, the non-destructive evaluation of the strength of concrete as it is being produced, and the use of high-performance, especially high-strength, steel-reinforced concrete.

Pessiki also serves on three PCE committees – research and development, technical activities, and industrial handbook, whose publications guide designers of precast and prestressed concrete buildings.
