Prof. Stenger receives Lehigh's Hillman Award

Harvey Stenger, professor of chemical engineering and former dean of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science, has received the university's 2003 Hillman Award for Excellence in Graduate Advising.

The award is the sixth university- or college-wide honor Stenger has received since joining the faculty in 1984. In 1988, he received the Alfred Noble Robinson Award for achievement by a junior faculty member in teaching and research. In 1989 and in 2001, he received the RCEAS Outstanding Teaching Award, and in 2002, he received the Stabler Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Deming Lewis Award from the tenth-year class.

Stenger's research, which involves reacting heterogeneous systems, includes work in natural products processing, semiconductor materials manufacturing, emission control processes, and synthetic fuels research. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Pennsylvania Energy Office, the Ben Franklin Partnership, the U.S. Air Force, General Foods, AT&T, Baltimore Gas and Electric, Corning Glass and the Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.

In 1990, Stenger received the Alan S. Foust Award for service to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
