MS&E junior receives Tarby Prize

David S. Fischer '05, a materials science and engineering major, has received the Tarby Prize for achieving the best academic performance last year among Lehigh sophomores majoring in MS&E.

The prize is named for Ken Tarby, professor emeritus and former associate chair of materials science and engineering, who retired in 2002. Funds for the prize were contributed by faculty and friends in Tarby's honor.

Fischer, a native of Morganville, N.J., has recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.85, and a GPA of 3.89 in his major, during his first two years at Lehigh. He has made Dean's List in each of his first four semesters, and is a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society.

In the materials science and engineering department, Fischer has successfully completed projects in mechanical property analysis and metallographic structural analysis.

Fischer is social director of his fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi.
