Innovative Programs
Lehigh University provides students with distinctive, experiential, and cross-disciplinary academic programs to meet the changing demands of business, industry, and service. Investments in new faculty, curricula, facilities, and equipment throughout the university have sparked extraordinary new programs and fostered exceptional opportunities for Lehigh students to learn, collaborate, and grow.
ACCOUNTING AND INFORMATION ANALYSIS
The MS in Accounting and Information Analysis is a flexible program allowing students to choose either a general degree emphasizing assurance services or concentrate in a specialized area such as consulting and business risk management, financial services, and strategic cost management.
AEROSPACE ENGINEERING
Lehigh’s minor in aerospace engineering, begun in fall 2004, is intended primarily for mechanical engineering majors who intend to pursue a career in the aerospace industry. This minor will provide the technical background needed for graduate programs in aeronautical engineering, aerospace sciences, and related aerospace fields.
ANALYTICAL FINANCE
Lehigh’s M.S. in Analytical Finance, a joint effort of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, the Perella Department of Finance, and the Department of Mathematics, is a rigorous program in advanced finance and quantitative financial analysis tools. The curriculum provides key concepts in financial theory, mathematical finance, and engineering, and utilizes Lehigh’s Financial Services Laboratory.
APPLIED LIFE SCIENCE
Lehigh launched an applied life science curriculum in the fall of 2004 for undergraduates interested in health professions, medical device or pharmaceutical marketing and manufacturing, public health, law (particularly intellectual property), policy, journalism, economics, and ethics. A grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation has helped to develop and equip the program.
ARTSLEHIGH
ArtsLehigh is a university-wide program designed to integrate art and creativity throughout the curriculum, campus culture and community. ArtsLehigh works with existing performing, visual, and literary resources to expose students to new opportunities and to build a more creative campus culture where art plays a significant role in the comprehensive liberal arts experience.
BIOBUSINESS
Lehigh’s MS in Health and Bio-Pharmaceutical Economics enables students to explore the business and entrepreneurial side of the biopharmaceutical and biotechnological fields. Designed for graduates with life sciences degrees, the program prepares them to carry out sophisticated cost/benefit analyses to enhance understanding of the health care products and processes involved.
BIOENGINEERING
Lehigh’s undergraduate bioengineering program integrates the study of biological systems with the development of advanced skills in experimentation, modeling, and simulation. It features tracks in biopharmaceutical engineering, bioelectronics, biophotonics, and cell and tissue engineering in a research-centered experiential learning program. A grant from the National Science Foundation supports the program’s technical entrepreneurship focus.
BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Lehigh’s undergraduate business information systems program provides students with a strong foundation in cross-functional business processes and the application of information systems to support them. The use of technology to improve business performance and effectively support strategic business plans is a major focus of the program.
COMPUTER SCIENCE & BUSINESS
An undergraduate program ideal for future CIOs, decision makers, and information-age executives, Lehigh’s computer science and business program provides the skills needed to understand business functions and business-related problems, analyze business-user information needs, design computer-based information systems, and implement systems solutions in business organizations. This rigorous program is the first and only undergraduate program in the U.S. to offer accredited degrees in both business and computer science.
DESIGN ARTS
Lehigh’s design arts program engages students in creative work that focuses on visual communication design with an emphasis on digital media and product design. Students develop skills and knowledge in the design of furniture, toys, household items, and electronic products—in addition to digital imagery such as animation, special effects, games, and interactive media.
ENGINEERING MINOR
The engineering minor, open to students outside the engineering college, provides insight into what engineers do, how they think, and the tools and techniques they use. Participants in the program will integrate their skills and broaden their career opportunities to collaborate effectively with engineering professionals.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Lehigh is infusing entrepreneurship throughout the curriculum, aided in part by a recent Opportunity Grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE (EI)
The Environmental Initiative examines the cultural, economic, historical, and political factors that influence environmental issues. The program directs academic programs in environmental studies, environmental policy, and environmental education. The EI sponsors and supports academic lectures and colloquia, and maintains strong relationships with other academic programs throughout Lehigh.
