More Innovative Programs!
GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
Lehigh, one of only a handful of universities in the world to hold NGO status at the United Nations, is preparing students to function critically, creatively and responsibly in an interdependent world. Students in the global citizenship program focus on key areas identified by the United Nations and international think tanks—economics, trade, the environment, human rights, and peace and security. Open to all majors, the global citizenship program will graduate citizens who can communicate across cultural and language barriers, negotiate differences, and achieve a distinct self-awareness as citizens of the world.
HUMANITIES
The Humanities Center serves as a focal point for activities and educational programs in the humanities at Lehigh. Faculty, staff, and students collaborate at the juncture of disciplines through discussion forums, speakers, and events such as the Summer Ethics Institute.
INTEGRATED BUSINESS & ENGINEERING (IBE)
The IBE Honors Program features a challenging curriculum that melds engineering and business. Students make decisions related to technology, product and process development, marketing, finance and design. IBE graduates will be prepared to assume leadership roles in industrial research and development, entrepreneurial initiatives, management consulting, and innovative technological ventures.
INTEGRATED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT (IPD)
IPD uses programs and projects to integrate real-world team-based initiatives into the academic curriculum. Cross-disciplinary teams of art, engineering, and marketing majors design or improve products for company sponsors. The program’s credit-bearing coursework also encompasses graduate focus on advanced modeling and simulation tools and global teams that collaborate using video, Internet, and teleconferencing technologies.
INTEGRATED REAL ESTATE AT LEHIGH (ire@l)
A portfolio of learning opportunities and experiences for the next generation of real estate leaders, Integrated Real Estate at Lehigh, or ire@l, is a three- or four-year course of study designed to complement a wide range of undergraduate majors such as architecture, journalism, political science, urban studies, environmental science, engineering, and economics. Teambuilding, mentoring, and hands-on out-of-class learning, coupled with internships and research opportunities, emphasizes a unique “big picture” perspective that allows students to investigate development projects over the long term.
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS IN EDUCATION
Lehigh University’s College of Education connects to today’s life-long learners through its international degree, certificate, and summer programs. Knowing how difficult it is to balance careers and continuing education, the College of Education has adopted an approach called Learning Beyond Limits. Educators can earn degrees in Educational Leadership or Global Leadership, Principal Certification, and other certificates through international programs that draw education professionals from around the world.
LEARNING SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY
Employing a science/practitioner model of learning, the Learning Sciences and Technology (LST) Ph.D. program focuses on the systematic study of the psychological, social, and technological processes that support learning. Incorporating three major components: socio-cultural context, cognition, and designing for learning, students will identify, describe, and apply what we know about learning from two distinctive —but highly related— perspectives: human and technological.
MBA COMBINED PROGRAMS
In a master’s level program that goes one step further, the MBA & Master of Educational Leadership joint degree program trains principals and superintendents with the business administrative skills required in today’s educational systems while supporting expertise in the area of instructional supervision and training. The MBA and Engineering degree offers students a business concentration such as finance, marketing, supply chain, or information systems management, and an engineering concentration such as chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial, mechanical, or materials science.
MUSIC COMPOSITION
The Bachelor of Arts program in music composition is designed for students committed to pursuing music composition beyond the undergraduate level. This program, begun in fall 2004, exposes students to a large body of recent music, allows greater experience in composition, and provides enhanced performance outlets for student compositions.
PHOTONICS
Lehigh’s M.S. program in photonics gives students the knowledge and mastery required to design and test optical components and subsystems, and to build and operate optical communications networks. The graduate photonics program is an important educational component of Lehigh’s Center for Optical Technologies, which enables faculty and students to conduct research in such areas as nonlinear optical effects, photo-induced phenomena, optical spectroscopy of integrated optical and semiconductor devices, glasses and other optical materials, fiber-based ultrasonics, optical sensing, and optical communications.
SCHOLARS PROGRAMS
Lehigh University promotes and encourages programs that feature collaborative experiential learning outside the campus setting. We have joined with the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Healthcare Network to offer the Lehigh-Pool Scholars Premedical Education Program. This collaborative program features biomedical research and internships, joint faculty and physician advising, and participation in conferences, lectures, and special courses in medical business practices and ethics.
The Eckardt Scholars Program is a highly selective opportunity for students who show outstanding academic promise or unusual creativity to devise individualized courses of study and engage in scholarly work of an advanced and often entrepreneurial nature.
The Martindale Student Associates Program provides students with a platform for the exploration of global business and economic issues through workshops, conferences, a study trip abroad, and close communication with internationally recognized scholars and practitioners. The Tauck Scholars Program provides top business students with international summer internships and other learning opportunities in cultural settings that are new to them.
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
The supply chain management undergraduate program prepares students to manage the processes that distinguish the successful company from its competitors by exposing them to supply management, logistics, business-to-business marketing and operations management. The curriculum emphasizes advanced cost analysis, negotiation, quality management and improvement, logistics network modeling, and e-business, and provides experiential learning opportunities in industry.
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION
Lehigh integrates the study of communication systems engineering and networking with the study of hardware and software implementation. Teams of undergraduate and graduate students research and construct realistic prototypes of wireless systems. The MS Degree in Wireless and Networking Engineering provides graduates with the education and skills they need to fill the increasing demand for wireless Information Technology professionals.
