Beginning Monday September 29, pedestrian access to and from the main south entrance to Maginnes Hall will be altered to accommodate site utility construction for the STEPS project. A new temporary, fenced walkway will be created during the weekend to hug the southeast corner of the building (i.e. the corner nearest the construction trailers). It will serve as a temporary connection between the south entrance doors and the existing walkway on the east side of Maginnes, which faces MART Library. The construction is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete. A concrete walkway will then be provided for a more direct and convenient access to the south building entrance.
During this period, we recommend that all persons entering and leaving the building at this level use the exterior doors on the east side of Maginnes. However, please note that building occupants will still be able to use the main south entrance doors and the doors on the west side of the building toward Vine Street to exit the building, but the exterior walkways and the construction fencing will channel those persons back to the east side of the building.
For handicapped persons in wheelchairs, it will be necessary to enter and exit Maginnes on the first floor from Asa Drive and then use the elevator to move vertically through the building.
