As we approach the finish line of this two-year project, significant changes in the appearance of the site will be visible over the next several months. Construction trailers have been removed, and the site is being regraded and prepared for landscaping, including new pathways, lighting, grass, shrubs and trees.
The exterior of the building is nearly complete with sunshades being installed on office and lab windows. A highlight is the American chestnut tree branch etched into the glass wall of the interior courtyard that is now visible from Packer Avenue. And the life-sized tree etched in the east glass wall of the atrium glows when sunlight hits it in the early morning and late afternoon.
Interior floor and wall finishes are almost done in B and C wings, and building systems are being tested and fine-tuned in preparation for inspections during the month of May.
Final touches are being installed on the laboratory casework. Office and lounge furniture will begin to arrive in mid-June. Occupants are beginning to organize for their move into the building this summer. Research labs will move first, then instructional labs.
The facility will be ready for classes in August.
The STEPS facility, situated at the corner of Packer Avenue and Vine Street, will be comprised of a South Wing, Central Wing and North Wing, which adjoins Maginnes Hall.
