This weekend during pacing break between Oct. 11 and 14, it will be necessary to make preliminary utility pipe connections relating to the STEPS building.
Contractors will be working on domestic water, steam and chilled water along Asa Drive near Maginnes Hall. Different utilities will be shut off beginning Saturday morning; some will not be reconnected until late on Tuesday. Traffic patterns will also be affected.
Utility Interruptions
Loss of domestic water to Maginnes Hall will occur early Sunday October 12. Service will be restored in time for Monday morning occupancy. Toilets and sinks will not be usable within the building during the outage.
The loss of steam will occur Saturday October 11 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the following buildings: Sinclair Laboratory, EWFM Library and Computing Center, Campus Square Residence Halls and the L.U. Bookstore. This will result in a loss of hot water and space heating during the four-hour period.
In Maginnes Hall, steam will be lost beginning Saturday morning and will not be restored until late in the day Tuesday. Space heating in the office areas should not be affected.
The loss of chilled water will occur Sunday morning and will not be restored until late in the day Tuesday. Buildings affected will be: Whitaker, Sinclair, Mudd, Neville, EWFM Library and Computing Center, Campus Square Residence Halls, L.U. Bookstore, Maginnes Hall, Taylor Gym, Rauch Business Center, Zoellner Arts Center, Sherman Fairchild Center for Physical Sciences (Physics), Sherman Fairchild Lab and Wilbur Powerhouse.
Any discomfort experienced will depend on outside air temperatures and the weather, which is expected to be mild. HVAC equipment will be monitored to ensure that adequate room temperatures are maintained.
Traffic Interruptions along Asa Drive
Vehicular traffic along Asa Drive will be affected during the construction period. On Saturday, there may be intermittent closures. On Sunday, access from Vine Street on Asa Drive and from the garage onto Asa Drive will be closed to traffic. On Monday and Tuesday there will be intermittent closures both from Vine Street and from the garage onto Asa Drive. On Wednesday through Friday October 17th, there may be a few temporary closures, but every effort will be made to preserve one passable traffic lane.
These dates, both during pacing break and in the cool month of October, were selected to address the interests of students, faculty and staff while still maintaining the construction schedule for the STEPS building.
