Work on the underground utilities in Asa Drive will continue in preparation for the future service connections to the STEPS building. Reconnection of steam and chilled water to Maginnes Hall will be completed by Wednesday, October 15, although reconstructive paving of Asa Drive will take place until the end of the week. Advance placement of underground steam and sanitary pipes in Asa Drive west of Maginnes Hall will extend for approximately the next two weeks.
Excavation and installation of the large storm piping on the north part of the site in front of Maginnes Hall will continue during the week of October 13. These pipes will be used as part of a storm water detention system for the site.
The steel pilings which will eventually support the shoring to hold back the earth along the west perimeter of the site will be completed this week. The shoring will be installed once excavation for the building's footings and foundation walls begins.
The concrete footings and foundations for the 'A' Building along West Packer Avenue will begin the week of October 20, and should take about 2-3 weeks.
Underpinning of the existing foundation walls at the southwest corner of Maginnes Hall will begin shortly and last for about 2-3 weeks. This is necessary because of the proximity and the depth of nearby foundation work for the STEPS building.
The temporary, crushed stone, exterior walkway now leading from the main south entrance of Maginnes Hall will be modified with the installation of a more direct, concrete surface. The walkway will be completed by the end of the week.
The STEPS facility, situated at the corner of Packer Avenue and Vine Street, will be comprised of a South Wing, Central Wing and North Wing, which adjoins Maginnes Hall.
